Odd Thomas works at the cafeteria of Pico Mundo, a small town Southern California city located in the Mojave Desert. Sounds like a guy like many others, but Odd has a special gift and can sense the presence of the dead in search of justice. The deceased appear to him to help him solve the crimes of which they were victims. One day in the diner is a mysterious man, who Odd nicknames "Fungus Man" (because of his complexion reminiscent of the mold), followed by a large swarm of bodachs, dark creatures that appear only during times of death and disaster. Thanks to its supernatural gift, Odd realizes that the mysterious man is connected to an impending catastrophe that is about to fall on the city. Odd will have only 24 hours to sventarla.
